Delayed Opening Plan

In the event of inclement weather, the Lynbrook Public Schools may have a two-hour delayed opening. A delayed opening might occur when it is obvious at 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM that a storm has ended or is about to end. The streets may not yet been satisfactorily cleared, but the roads should be safe for travel in a few hours. By delaying the opening of school by two hours, we would be able to provide instruction to our students rather than close school for the entire day.

A delayed opening would simply open all schools exactly two ours after they would normally open. Parents are advised to watch for the bus as road conditions could cause busses to arrive earlier or later than expected. Afternoon dismissals and bus schedules beyond the first two hours of the day would remain unchanged.

8:30 classes start time 10:30.

Early Dismissal
In the event of inclement weather, the Lynbrook Public Schools may need to implement a two-hour early dismissal. An early dismissal might occur when the weather predicts that a storm may not begin until early afternoon., thus making the afternoon dismissal difficult. By dismissing two-hours earlier, the children would be dismissed at 12:30 with an abbreviated lunch period.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Arrangements have been made to notify the general public by radio and television whenever schools are to be closed because of weather conditions. Announcements will be made beginning at 7:00 AM and will be broadcast intermittently over the following cable TV stations: News 12, Verizon FIOS, CBS 2, NBC 4, FOX 5, ABC 7. An announcement will also be posted on the district website www.lynbrookschools.org, and an automated voice message will be sent to home phones, posted on the district APP and posted on the district's Facebook page.
