The ALS Ride for Life campaign began its tour at Marion Street Elementary School with additional stops at North and South middle schools on May 13. The Lynbrook community holds annual fundraisers in support of the organization’s quest for a cure.
ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor functions. Patients with ALS in the Ride for Life organization visit Lynbrook schools annually to share thanks and are always met with large energetic and cheerful crowds. At Marion Street, Ride for Life members made their way around the blacktop as students cheered them on and waved signs with messages of support. Led by music teacher Anna Upston, the entire Marion Street community gathered in song dedicated to their visitors. The Student Council then presented organization members a check, which will be used to support ALS research. Marion Street will continue to fundraise and conclude their efforts with a schoolwide ice bucket challenge.
