Lynbrook students experience the New York Stock Exchange
For the third time, Lynbrook has earned the incredible honor of being invited to the New York Stock Exchange by Micheal Pistillo, who works as a Market Maker at GTS. Walking into such an iconic and fast-paced environment offers a rare glimpse into the world of finance and success, making it an unforgettable experience for students.
One spotlight of the experience was meeting the “Einstein of Wall Street” Peter Tuchman. His inviting personality and humor drew in a group of Lynbrook students, and he educated them on some of the firsthand experiences he has endured in the trading world. Liam Gallagher, a senior and the company’s Chief Executive Officer, felt inspired by the insight Tuchman provided.
“As someone who is interested in pursuing that field, it was a pleasure to listen to what he had to say, Gallagher said. I was touched by the fact that he was willing to give us his time and share his wisdom with newer generations.”
The tour included an overview of New York Stock Exchange history. Anabel Ramsey, a junior and the company’s Event Planner, expressed her interest in the history of women in finance. “I thought it was really interesting to learn about the history of women in the New York Stock Exchange, she said. A lot of the history seems as though women were integrated into the industry much later than men were.”
Ramsey was touched by the birds-eye view from the balcony inside the stock exchange, looking down at the mix of men and women working together on the trading floor and observing the women who were given the honor to ring the morning bell. Being there with inspiring women in finance who were recognized for their immense impact in the industry was an eye opening experience for her, she explained.
From traveling the city together to stepping into such a historic and influential place, the entire day was filled with energy, learning, and memorable moments. It was a rare opportunity, and it left everyone with a greater appreciation for how the stock market works and the impact it has on the world. Overall, it was an amazing time that students will remember for years to come. #OwlProud
