Diversity of Lynbrook community celebrated at multicultural celebrations

Students and family members at Waverly Park and Marion Street elementary schools in the Lynbrook School District were bursting with pride on May 15 as they celebrated their diversity with multicultural festivals.
At Waverly Park, students helped their family members set up tables that showcased their family’s country of origin, offering touring students an authentic experience of the country’s cultural traditions. At each booth, poster boards denoted facts about the country and artifacts gave glimpses of traditional dishes, holidays celebrated, and music played. The colorful displays were paired with authentic outfits worn by families that further showcased the community’s diversity. On paper passports, students collected stickers from each country as they made a tour around the world.
Families also gathered at Marion Street to pridefully display their cultural backgrounds. Lynbrook High School students in the Culture and Diversity Club set up presentations of their own, inspiring their younger peers to explore the globe. Dancing performances were given by Lynbrook High School students Subhana Wasim and Harmandeep Ghotra.
