Singers in the Lynbrook High School Chorus had the performance opportunity of a lifetime on Oct. 5 when they shared the stage with Broadway stars in a professional New York City concert!

Ten singers performed at Merkin Concert Hall – a world class Manhattan concert venue – for the American Songbook Association Gala honoring the careers of Broadway composers Richard Maltby and David Shire. As the concert's finale, they performed Maltby and Shire's rousing song, "The Story Goes On," with Broadway star Liz Callaway, earning a standing ovation.

They were prepared for the performance by LHS Chorus teacher Barry Wyner and accompanied onstage by Lynbrook South Chorus teacher Annie Pasqua, who served as the concert pianist. Afterward, students had the opportunity to speak about careers in music with Maltby, Shire and Callaway, as well as Broadway veterans including Eddie Korbich (original Scuttle in "The Little Mermaid"), Josh Dela Cruz (from TV's "Blue's Clues") and Sal Viviano ("Chicago," "Falsettos").

LHS students who participated included Karen Benitez, Ana Berrios, Isabella Bonfa, Isabella Ehmsen, Hailey Lovaglio, Gabriella Matthews, Isabella Mendez, Lily Perez, Ben Singleton and Rey Vargas. Great work to these young performers! #OwlProud #OwlLearns
