PowerSchool Data Incident
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am writing to update you regarding the recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, a software vendor which provides our Student Information System (SIS). Unfortunately, they have confirmed that the information belongs to some of Lynbrook UFSD’s families and educators.
PowerSchool informed us that the taken data primarily includes parent and student contact information with data elements such as name and address information. They are working with urgency to complete their investigation and determine whether PII belonging to our students was included. Based upon our own preliminary findings, current student data that may have been taken includes names, addresses, emails, dates of birth, NYS student ID numbers, emergency contact information, programmatic alerts, diploma status and type, guidance counselors, and miscellaneous notes. Please note that social security numbers are not included, since Lynbrook USFD does not collect them and store them in PowerSchool.
More information can be found on PowerSchool’s website: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
