The heroes and victims of Sept. 11, 2001, were given tribute by the fifth grade class of West End Elementary School in the Lynbrook School District in recognition of Patriot Day. 

Several courageous students, who included Cathley Skinner, Natalie Rafferty, Juliette Hughes, Ava Vignona, Lexi Blyskal and Cici Farr, shared their original poetry. Donning red, white and blue clothing, members of the chorus led by music teacher Jodi Abrams rose to perform a song dedicated to first responders. Servicemembers in attendance also received thanks.
