The bookends of the Lynbrook School District came together on June 12, as some of Lynbrook's oldest students went back to the Kindergarten Center to read to Lynbrook's youngest students.
The seniors in Mr. Kirchenberg's English classes wrote and illustrated their own original children's stories. Kirchenberg has been doing this project for a few years, but this year, the students asked him if they could go read their books to kindergarteners. The Kindergarten Center principal and all the teachers were all very quick to welcome the opportunity to have the 12th graders come there to read their stories to the children.
Kirchenberg explained, Many of the themes my students wrote about are the themes students first learn about in kindergarten: acceptance, diversity, friendship, sharing and overcoming obstacles. It was beautiful that the seniors wanted to share those messages with the little ones.
High School principal Matt Sarosy attended the event and noted, The 'full circle' optic of having our oldest and youngest students together hits hard, especially in June.
Lynbrook Superintendent Dr. Paul Lynch also got to see this first-hand, and he was moved by seeing the graduating seniors sharing something meaningful with the Kindergarten Center students, stating, It was the epitome of the Lynbrook spirit. #OwlProud #OwlCares #OwlLearns
