This year, Lynbrook’s Flight School is thrilled to announce that our second graders districtwide have embarked on their first adventure. Over the course of the year, they will dive into two exciting modules inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

In the first module, students explore the difference between wants and needs, focusing on essential resources like food, water and shelter. Through hands-on activities like mind mapping, Lego building, and coding robots, they tackle real-world problems. By working together and communicating effectively, they develop creative solutions to global challenges. This module also highlights the importance of education and the need for equitable and inclusive learning opportunities for everyone.

One exciting activity involves programming robots using color-coded pads. Students create pathways for their robots to transport students, teachers, school supplies, and other resources to their final destination: a school.

In the second module, students shift their focus to nutrition, hunger, and food security. They learn about the importance of a balanced diet using MyPlate as a guide and engage in fun sorting activities, games, and coding challenges. Working collaboratively, they tackle real-world issues and discover how proper nutrition plays a key role in maintaining good health and well-being.

“Through these engaging activities, students connect their learning to global efforts aimed at building a more sustainable and equitable world,” said Mrs. Cocozza.

“Throughout their flight, student’s develop empathy, creativity, and problem-solving skills that will help them thrive as they continue their journey in Flight School and beyond,” Mrs. Teichman said.
