Lynbrook School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Lynch recently participated in a professional learning event hosted by the New York State Education Department, focusing on effective strategies to teach students about the Holocaust and other genocides. Held at the newly opened Anne Frank The Exhibition at the Center for Jewish History in New York City, the event provided a unique and immersive learning experience on March 31.

The exhibition, the first full recreation of the Anne Frank Annex outside of Amsterdam, offered New York educators an in-depth exploration of Holocaust history. Throughout the day, superintendents, curriculum directors and educators collaborated with leading experts in Holocaust education to refine and strengthen their teaching strategies.

According to Dr. Lynch, he gained valuable insights into engaging students in discussions and ensuring they develop a deeper understanding of these critical historical events.

“This was a wonderful educational experience,” Dr. Lynch said. “The recreation of the Ann Frank Annex was extraordinary and brought the pages of the Diary to life. The most moving and memorable part of the day for me, though, was the conversation with Holocaust survivor Toby Levy who spoke of the goodness of humanity and her hope for the future despite of the cruelty inflicted on her family as such a young girl. She is truly a gift!”
