Eight retirees of the Lynbrook School District had their combined service of more than 200 years honored at the Feb. 12 Board of Education meeting. The district also recognized outstanding students and a generous donation made to Lynbrook High School.
Trustees accepted the retirements of each educator and shared resolutions highlighting their career accomplishments. Retirees included Kathleen Schueler, a teacher aid who served for 18 years at Marion Street Elementary; Mary Prendergast, a teacher assistant who served for 17 years at West End Elementary; Kathleen Freehill, a kindergarten teacher who served for 28 years; Rita Callahan, a second grade teacher who served for 31 years at West End; Anne Conway, a second grade teacher who served for 30 years at Marion Street; Robyn Freiman, an English teacher who served for 30 years at South Middle School; Karen Goulet, a family and consumer science teacher who served for 16 years; and MaryJean LaMarca, a mathematics teacher who served for 25 years at Lynbrook High School. The district is grateful for these individuals’ leadership and unwavering commitment to the Lynbrook school community.
Additionally, the Board accepted a donation from Temple Bnai Sholom – Beth David of several book sets on the Holocaust. The donation includes a range of titles that provide historical accounts, survivor testimonies and insightful perspectives on one of history’s darkest periods. The books will be incorporated into the curriculum at Lynbrook High School, ensuring that students gain a well-rounded perspective on the Holocaust and its significance in today’s world.
Senior Eric Reilly received applause for being named a semifinalist in the prestigious 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search. For the competition, Reilly received $2,000 as well as $2,000 for his school. Senior Charisse Cueto was recognized for receiving a Certificate of Merit in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.
